Books, journals, magazines, and digital resources are protected by copyright.
This copyright means that it’s likely you need to seek permission before you re-use published material.
Sometimes copyright exceptions (Saesneg yn unig) mean you don’t need to seek permission in certain cases. It is unlikely that these exceptions will cover all your copying needs.
CLA’s blanket Education Licence gives staff at licensed institutions the right to copy and re-use published material, without having to worry about spending time and money on obtaining permission to re-use copyright-protected content to share with students.
Provided that staff comply with the Education Licence terms and conditions, CLA will indemnify (protect against legal liability) your institution for claims for copyright infringement, where the use is covered by the licence. So having a CLA Education Licence also means peace of mind that you are creating copyright-compliant teaching resources.
This text is intended for use as guidance only and not as a substitute for the CLA Licence terms themselves, which should be read in full. In the event of conflict between the two, the Licence shall prevail. For permissions not listed above, please contact the publisher direct.
