The Check Permissions tool indicates whether photocopying, scanning or copying from digital is permitted. In most cases this is self explanatory and you can find further information when clicking on the dropdown menu.
You can make and share copies as indicated (i.e. photocopies and/or scans and/or copy from digital).
The CLA Licence does not permit copying as indicated (i.e. photocopy and/or scan and/or copy from digital).
However, the search result isn't always clear.
You will see this, when we don't have enough information on a publication.
The amber result usually comes up when
- an ISBN has not yet been added to Check Permissions and is 'not found'
- This simply means that the ISBN has not yet been added to the CLA Database. The Check Permissions Tool is not a bibliographic catalogue, but a link to the CLA Database that records copying permissions under the CLA Licences. You can click on the dropdown menu and follow the general instructions or send the ISBN and other details to permissions@cla.co.uk or support.education@cla.co.uk. We can check the permissions status for you and will add the ISBN to the Check Permissions Database for future reference.
- Please note that every ISBN search will be recorded and eventually all ISBNs that have not yet been added will be picked up by our Data Team in due course.
-
publications without an ISBN or ISSN
- Please note that we can only add publications that have been published with an ISBN or ISSN to the Check Permissions tool. Publications that pre-date the use of ISNs cannot be added to the Check Permissions tool. Please follow the guidance in the drop-down for amber results. You can always contact us if you are unsure.
If you are having difficulty using the Check Permissions tool, can’t find the title you are looking for or believe the results returned to be incorrect, please do not hesitate to contact us at permissions@cla.co.uk or support.education@cla.co.uk and we will be happy to help.
This text is intended for use as guidance only and not as a substitute for the CLA Licence terms themselves, which should be read in full. In the event of conflict between the two, the Licence shall prevail. For permissions not listed above, please contact the publisher direct.
